The Pleasure of Chanoyu
Japanese Tea Ceremony, known as the “Way of Tea” or Chanoyu, is a tradition integral to Japan's political, social, and artistic development for almost 1,000 years. One who practices Chanoyu has to become familiar with every detail, from the flowers to the scroll to the kettle to be used, to prepare that cup of tea. Paying close attention to respect each moment that he or she shares with friends.
Omotesenke Domonkai Northern California Region
In June 1959, seven Teachers reached out to all Omotesenke Tea practitioners in the Bay Area to join them for a cup of tea and to work together to further their understanding of the Way of Tea. And for the past 50 years, the Omotesenke Domonkai Northern California has offered, not only to the Japanese American Community, but invited and offered to all, a non-verbal look into the very “sprit” of Japanese culture. In 1971, we were recognized as Omotesenke Domonkai Northern California Region under the auspices of the Head Office of Domonkai in Kyoto. We will celebrate our 50th Anniversary of our inauguration in June 2020, where we will be honoring the past and celebrating the present and a promise for an auspicious future.
